Claudia Laffranchi, 49, Angelena-Ticinese, journalist and emcee of the International Film Festival in Locarno, was found dead in her Los Angeles apartment in the early afternoon of May 22nd.

Claudia was one of a handful of our most ardent supporters. Being native from the Lago Maggiore region, as a Media Professional in the Entertainment Industry, and a Film History buff, Claudia had a very unique perspective of our project and understood the stakes involved better than anyone could.

Claudia was the first person contacted in March 2011, after it was decided to assist the Municipality of Ronco in the effort to save Remarque’s Casa Monte Tabor.

She immediately saw the great opportunity and possibilities this project would offer, based on our Foundation’s close association with some of the most prestigious entertainment-related organizations in the World who are directly connected with Remarque and Goddard’s Legacy.

Her enthusiasm and encouragement was the fuel that helped us going. She was our best Cheerleader and supporter.

She was very interested, involved and closely followed our project from Day One. Her valuable suggestions, feedback and ideas are part of our strategy today – Her assistance was priceless!

She was excited to possibly see “her” Ticino permanently associated to an important International cultural icon, to increase the region’s visibility World-wide. Her Locarno Film Festival involvement, the fact she lived in Los Angeles among the Stars, and Claudia’s future ability to invite Hollywood  celebrities to visit her Homeland, courtesy of our Foundation, was supposed to be the Hallmark of our collaboration.

We are so sad Claudia won’t be here to witness the continuation of this project. We will forever honor her priceless contribution to our Foundation.

Michael H. Gaedeke-Sartori on behalf of all volunteers, sponsors and collaborators to our project.
